John Fulford
President

John founded Turnstone in 1997 after travelling for years building zoo exhibits around the country. John enjoys researching  the geology and history of the features and ecosystems the company replicates, and building structures that will endure. The time he spends in the backcountry and his travels inform and inspire his work.

Paul Keller  Superintendent

Paul joined the Turnstone team in 1998 and has led projects ranging from zoo exhibits to both formal and natural water features. Paul has a strong and dynamic sense for natural stone placement, and he designs and builds complex mechanical systems to move water efficiently and with a subtle effect. He recently built the Asian Claw Footed Otter Exhibit at the Woodland Park Zoo's Bamboo Forest Reserve.

Erik McCormick
Lead Artist/Superintendent

Along with being a  WABO certified structural steel welder, Erik is an expert in all vertical cement carving techniques. He leads an extremely talented crew of artists whose individual accomplishments are far too great to list here. Check out erikkeepingitreal.com

Amanda Aude
Office Manager

Amanda wears many hats at Turnstone. She is our main point of contact at the office, working on contracts and invoicing, insurance, safety, and beyond for our clients. She is also our social media coordinator and project photographer. Amanda graduated from Seattle Pacific University and is a dynamic outdoors person, which perfectly accents the Turnstone attitude.

Andrew Dornan  Landscape Architect

Andrew anchors the Turnstone design team, utilizing his training in Landscape Architecture to integrate Turnstone's work with each project's setting. He earned his Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Washington and has worked at several Landscape Architecture firms in the northwest since graduation in 1998. Andrew's love of plants and horticulture inspires his work.

Neil Harrison  Superintendent

Neil has worked at Turnstone for over 16 years and previously traveled the world building with shotcrete. Specific project credits include the Oceanographic City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia, Spain and the Kuwait Scientific Center in Kuwait.  Neil more recently managed the Humboldt Penguin Exhibit at Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo, winner of the AZA Best Exhibit Award in 2010. He also drives the loudest and sweetest sounding truck of the Turnstone fleet.

Brandon Powell

Head of Operations

AKA "Ops"

Brandon has been living with shotcrete since the amazing day he was birthed from a ready-mix truck.  He has been flown around the world to work on concrete pumps and now he resides with Turnstone keeping our fleet of diesel motors running mean and clean.

Testimonials

  •  "It has been my good fortune to work with Turnstone Construction on the project. John has assembled one of the most professional and cooperative groups of people I have ever worked with, and I look foward to their return in the spring."

- Laurie Cambell, General Superintendent, Cambell Construction, Victoria BC

  • "I had problems, and Fielding and Turnstone were the solution."

- Myles Vixie, Project Manager, Forma Construction

  • "Turnstone Construction far exceeded my expectations. Their construction standards and work ethic are of the highest quality.  Our project was constructed during one of the wettest winters on record and, even with additions to the scope of work, was completed on time and significantly under budget."

 - Lynn Sonneman, Owner

  • "Jason, thank you so much for building an amazing waterfall for us! We’ve been thoroughly enjoying it every day. Working with you and the team was a great experience. I can’t believe how patient you were with me. I wanted to understand everything and make all kinds of adjustments along the way. I think most people would have gotten frustrated with me, but you never did. Instead, you explained each detail to me until I fully understood it. When I wanted changes, you listened and then guided me in the right direction based on your artistic talent. In the end, we got a finished product that we absolutely love. This was the best experience I’ve ever had working with someone who was designing, building, or repairing something for me. Thank you again!!"

- Tom, Owner

  • "Above all, I commend them for the diligence of their research, the artistry of their carvers, finishers, and painters, and speed and care with which they execute their work and the sense of integrity that they bring to all they do."

- Monica Lake,  Capital Projects Manager, Woodland Park Zoo

  • "The buttress tree is so real that people wonder how we got it into the building, and the hand-carved and colored shotcrete work is the best I have ever seen. Many artificial rock firms can produce certain types of rock and mud bank formations that appear real; however, I was truly impressed that you could take the photographs that I had taken in the rainforest and reproduce the weathered stream bank to look and feel just like the real thing."

- John Aikin, Curator of Planning and Design, The San Francisco Zoological Society

  • "You (John Fulford), Paul, and the rest of the Turnstone crew were great to work with and created a beautiful water feature."

- Jeff Mix, Sr Project Engineer, GLY Construction

  • "Thanks for all of your hard work at our Mercer Island project last week. I'm thrilled with the results and thoroughly enjoyed working with you and all of your team members. Thanks again and please know that I look forward to working with all of you again."

- Susan, Owner
