TALUS RETAINING WALL
This project transformed a massive soldier pile wall into a natural-looking granite rock formation for an exclusive residential development in Issaquah, Washington. The existing wall consisted of soldier piles with tieback anchors and lagging between them. Our work began by installing a drainage mat designed to direct water down the face of the wall and into the drainage system. We then covered the entire structure with engineered steel reinforcing mats before shooting the wall with structural shotcrete, working from man lifts to reach the full height and contours of the structure. After the structural shotcrete was applied by our American Shotcrete Association (ASA) certified nozzle men, the texturing process began. Our artists hand-carved the surface to replicate the distinctive character and formations of the native High Cascade Granite found throughout the Pacific Northwest region. Finally, the carved surface was carefully stained to bring out the depth , color, and natural variation of the stone, transforming an engineered retaining structure into a convincing native rock formation.
